Karchur scientifically known as Curcuma zedoaria, is an important Ayurvedic herb. It is mostly found in the region of eastern Himalayan ranges and the state of Karnataka in India. This plant is not very different from turmeric plant. It is almost 1.5 feet tall and is pulpy. Flowers of this plant are light yellow coloured and shiny.


It has umpteen medical benefits. It is used in diseases like loss of appetite, indigestion, joints pain, asthma, hiccups, skin related disorders, arthritis, tastelessness, inflammation, erectile dysfunction, imbalance in menstruation cycle, disorders related to passage of urine, gonorrhoea, weakness in muscles of cardiac region, different body pains etc. Karchur is also beneficial in dysuria, body fever and chronic piles. The paste of Karchur can be applied on inflamed areas and wounds to heal faster. Karchur can also be consumed in liquid form. It helps in urine related disorders and other infections in genitals.
